Welcome to the 3rd IFAC Symposium on System, Structure and Control.
This is the seventh edition of this IFAC meeting, the third one as a Symposium and the first time it is held in South America. The main theme of the meeting is the study of the mathematical structure of systems and the limits it imposes on control systems design and performance. The six high quality previous meetings were fundamental to the formulation of what is now called the structural approach to control theory. We have made every effort in order to keep this tradition of excellence.
We have had 156 paper submissions, of which 114 have been accepted and are scheduled to be presented at the Symposium. We thank the International Program Committee for its brilliant job in selecting the papers through judicious peer-reviewing. Submissions have come from all over the world, with authors from all five continents. We are glad to see this strongly eclectic scientific representation in our Symposium. The final technical program includes also 3 invited plenary lectures by distinguished members of the control community.
In organizing this Symposium we tried to provide an efficient yet relaxed environment for discussion and scientific interaction, hence the selection of this particular venue and the organization chosen for the Symposium's program. The convention center of the Mabu Thermas is a very modern one, with high level conference facilities and services. Foz do Iguassu is one of the major tourist poles in Brazil - beside Rio de Janeiro and Salvador - mainly due to the waterfalls, among the largest in the world, which constitute the border of three countries - Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay.
Once again, welcome to the SSSC07. Enjoy our Symposium and your stay in Foz do Iguassu.Dr. João Manoel Gomes da Silva Jr. (IPC Chair)
